JULIAN
GOLD RUSH FIELD TRIP & MUSICAL
A genuine encounter with the living past.
Presenting
a living history experience demonstrating the integrity,
determination, and strength of the people
of Julian’s 1870-1874 pioneer gold rush community.
This field trip provides a hands on educational experience
including participation in a musical reader's theater
performance which focuses on town development, community
spirit, patriotism and leadership, a guided gold mine
tour, complete with gold panning, and a walk around guided-tour
of the Julian Historic town site including a viewing
of local artifacts at the Julian Pioneer museum and a
visit to Julian’s Pioneer Cemetery.
One
day, a little boy who was old enough to read, came
into the Julian Pioneer Museum and pointed to the mounted
turkey. He declared, "that's not a turkey! The curator
asked, "why is it not a turkey?" and he replied, "it
has feathers!"
Pioneer children would definitely not have made this
statement.
By inspiring the children of our time with this Julian
living history experience, we endeavor to gift their
lives with these same pioneer qualities of integrity,
determination, and strength of spirit.
